Date Duo ~ Holiday Edition

All I want for Christmas is… WINE! Happy Holidays, y’all! I hope you have been having a wonderful season. Today I am finally writing up a Date Duo on all the fun things to do around Richmond for the holiday season!

My favorite Christmas tradition is visiting Busch Gardens Christmas Town. Busch Gardens is located in Williamsbug, VA so it is only an hour drive from Richmond. There are rides, a million lights, a wine walk and more. The wine walk is my favorite part. For $30, you get a wine glass and can visit three countries for a taste of four wines each. By the time we finish the walk, it is dark so we can walk around and enjoy the twinkling lights. On top of the lights and rides, there are cute Christmas shows. It is such a fun filled day that gets us in the holiday spirit! We love to buy a bottle of wine and wander for hours looking at all the beautiful lights.

Another thing I love about Richmond are all the Tacky Lights! Zach and I have done many tours in the past. The RVA Trolly Tour, a private party bus, our own tour and a charter bus tour. Lately we have been taking a charter bus tour with James River Transportation. This has been our favorite because you can bring drinks and we enjoy their route. My favorite houses are off Ashbury Court and Wendhurst Dr.! RVA is never too tacky!

I absolutely love Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens especially during the holiday season. This is a fun week night date. I highly suggest going on a weeknight to avoid the massive crowds the weekends can draw. Dress warm, you’ll be walking around for a few hours enjoying all the lights! Sips and Trips Tip * Grab a glass of wine in the cafe before you begin. It is fun sippin’ and walkin’!

If a Tacky Light Tour isn’t enough there is always the Carmax Tacky Light Run. Zach and I have been doing it since we moved to Richmond eight years ago. It is usually the second Saturday in December. The race is getting a bit big so this may have been our last year but it is still such a fun experience. The run takes place in the Walton Park neighborhood in Midlothian, VA. The houses are decked out in lights and the neighborhood throws a huge party for the run. There are people with bonfires handing out cookies, jello shots, hot apple cider, beer and more. People are decked out in their tackiest of sweaters and lights. Zach and I walked it this past year so we could enjoy the lights!

I can’t wait to hear what holiday date duo you will try! Zach and I will be visiting the Botanical Gardens after Christmas this year and we might check out the Kings Dominion Winter Fest as well.

Cheers, Paige
