Gabriele Rausse

Hi all! Back at you with a post about one of our favorites, Gabriele Rausse. Gabriele Rausse is a hidden gem that is tucked in the woods off Carters Mountain Road. They are only open Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.

They offer three different tastings. The classic tasting is $12 for 9 wines. They have a half tasting for $6 and they have their AMAZING food and wine pairing for $18. The food and wine pairing is only until one o’clock each day so if you want to try this out, you need to arrive before one! I HIGHLY suggest the food pairing, it is divine.

Even if you do not arrive for their food paring, they give you their fresh homemade baguette and amazing Galardo olive oil to go along with your tasting. All of their wines are fabulous. I loved their Cabernet Franc. The one they are currently pouring is a mixed vintage of 17 and 18. We also love their Rosso, this is a blend of Petit Verdot, Cab Franc and Cab Sauv. Rosso is known as their table red. I also really enjoyed their Chasselas Dore Sparkling as well. They add yeast to the bottle for the second fermentation… when you get to the end of the bottle, you can see the yeast at the bottom. There is a completely different taste when you first open to the last sip.

Gabriele Rausse is known as the “Father of Virginia Wine.” He was involved with the start of Barboursville Winery and has mentored several other local wineries. Rausse started his own label in 1997. They currently have nine acres under vine but they also buy other grapes from around Virginia.

I highly suggest you stop here next time you are in Charlottesville for a unique and relaxing experience. Gabriele Rausse is near several other wineries like Trump, Blenheim, and Jefferson to make a little adventure!

Cheers, Paige
