Hey guys! Hope you are all hanging in there! I have been back to work now for over a month, I can’t believe it is already September! Now that I am back to the grind, I need fun weekend plans to get me through these challenging weeks. A few weeks ago, Zach and I headed to Charlottesville to hit up a few places we had been meaning to check out to ease those Sunday Scaries!
Wisdom Oak Winery was on top of our revisit list ever since we entered Phase 1. Wisdom Oak is one of my favorite local wineries! Proud wine club member here 🙂 Wisdom Oak is family owned and operated. Jason is the winemaker and tends to the vineyard. Laura runs the tasting room as well as their wine club. They produce about 1,200 cases but plan on making 4,000 in the coming years. We love so many of their wines but our favorites include their Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng and their Meritage. I love how Jason plants new varietals and experiments with his wine making. I am so stoked for their new sparkling! It should be released soon! They are offering seated flights, glass, and bottle sales. Make sure you make a reservation before you visit!
Following Wisdom Oak, we finally hit up Tilman’s Cheese for lunch. This spot is one that we have heard about. They are located right on the downtown mall in Charlottesville. They offer the three main food groups; cheese, wine, and snacks. If wine isn’t your thing, they offer beer, cider, and cocktails! They offer a variety of small plates, cheeses boards, salads, and sandwiches. I enjoyed the “Taste of Fall” wine flight while Zach had a local brew. We split a cheese board along with the pickled plate and baguette. It was the perfect lunch!
We have visited Michael Shaps Wineworks before but have never been to Wineworks Extended. This is an amazing tasting room that is right in town! They offer two flights; the Virginia Michael Shaps label and the French Maison Shaps label. Zach and I split the two different flights and we had so many favorites! We loved the Maison Shaps Aligote and Rosé as well as the Michael Shaps Odette. Another unique thing Michael Shaps does is boxed wine, that is my kinda thing! He offers Cab Franc, Rosé and Viognier boxes! Michael Shaps produces about 8,000 cases for his own label but he also is the wine maker for over 20 wineries!
We ended our day at The Wool Factory. This is a brand new event venue that has Selvedge Brewing and The Workshop onsite. It is located at a restored 19th century mill property in Charlottesville. We had such a great time scoping the place out. We started at the Workshop to try a sampling of wine and checkout their amazing wine wall. We followed with dinner at Selvedge Brewing. They had a great selection of food and beverages! We can’t wait to go back!
Another perfect day in Charlottesville. We have two more wine packed weekends coming up plus a few girls weekends in October. I cant wait to keep sharing my wine adventures with you!
Cheers, Paige
